I’ve been away since Monday, filming the Gardener of the Decade competition at the Eden Project. No more on that of course for now – it’s scheduled for broadcast on the 12th December.

But while I’ve been away autumn has sneaked in. A cool mist trailed over the garden this morning, pulling the spiders webs down into beaded necklaces, and my breath swayed visible in front of me. The holly berries have turned red and the leaves on the cherries are yellowing. Monday’s late summer sunshine has gone and the season is all but over. All endings mean fresh beginnings though and I agree with Toby Buckland who said on GW last week that the gardener’s year starts in September. Next year starts here – I’ve got plant orders to place, bulbs to plant and a chance to restructure the nursery and parts of the garden in the next few months.

I’m back at College today, for an eighteen month stint to finish off the RHS Diploma. So no more time for postings now – back soon…
