With cold weather forecast for the rest of the week we took the opportunity to get out for a New Year walk along the river. This valley truly is a lovely place and it’s good to step out on a quiet, still day and appreciate it. Back in the garden, the mild spell has put a fresh green sheen on the lawns and brought a few early hellebores out. I soaked up the last of the afternoon sunshine chopping up the larger apple tree prunings for the fire and came in glowing and warm. As they say, a wood fire warms you twice.

I don’t do resolutions, but if I did, I’d resolve to slow the pace a little in 2008. I would aim to do a little less and do everything a little better. Trouble is, I think that would take a personality transplant, not a mere resolution.

A very Happy New Year and happy gardening to you all.
