Our first NGS open day went off beautifully. The sun shone, the tea flowed, we sold out of ice cream and raised a total of £1,000 for the charity. All the cars fitted on the meadow, there were no snarl-ups on the lane and everyone professed themselves delighted with the garden. The nursery had a very good day too – I’m surprised we have any plants left!

Some of our visitors enjoying the garden
Our first area of completely new planting in an area which had become swamped by Vinca. The ferns and hostas look wonderful backlit by the sun.
But the best place of all was the woods. The bluebells are at their peak and those who trekked across the field were rewarded with this.
