…the nursery was at -7C this morning. We’re still at -4C now and it’s 9am. The world is bright and hard, magical and deathly. Virtually all progress on plants has been at a standstill for a week now with pots remaining frozen all day. Even the compost inside the potting shed is frozen solid! Is it only here, or is every other gardener’s life on hold, waiting for the country to defrost?

Panic not Sue! Such is life and I have not been outside apart from walking up to get the paper. Even the snowdrops have to fend for themselves 😉
It is however better today, the Mere outside is not frozen and the fog is lifting. No doubt when you can get out there you will be working like stink so enjoy the break.
Yes we are frozen as well in Worcestershire. Like Brian says once it warms up you will be rushing around sowing and potting up so enjoy the lull
How did the finals go Sue?
Hello all.
don’t know why I’ve been in such a black mood for the past week. It might be the cold, but someone said it’ll change with the full mooon tonight – not sure if I believe that!
Anyway, a slow thaw has started so I can get on. Might take a while for the compost to defrost though -I’ve got 80 bags of ice at the moment!
Brian, one exam was tough, the other was fine, so hopefully I’ve done OK overall, thanks. That’s the RHS Advanced completed (hopefully!) so now just the decision about starting the Diploma in September. I probably will…..
We too had freezing weather this week. But the cold was less a problem than the sudden drop. 14° last Saturday and then down to 1° by Sunday morning. It stayed around freezing till about Wednesday and then started to climb. Yesterday we were back up to 12°. But all the sudden changes are bad for people and plants alike.
As I write a snowdrop – “Flocon de Neige” has reached £236 on ebay…madness. I don’t suppose you have any on the nursery Sue!!! If so you could be up for a world cruise on the price of a whole clump.
We have been icy cold here too, about 45 mins from you I think, just over into Wales. I am really ready for Spring now. Can I ask you where you are doing your course? I’m wondering about doing something next year and not sure about level and the best place to go.
