Ok, two new quests.
The first is a hardy geranium. It looks like oxanium ‘Walter’s Gift’, but the petal background is white rather than pale pink and the veining is even more pronounced. The leaves have little dark marks between the lobes, but otherwise green. Habit is low growing and spreading. The flowers are about 2cm diameter.
The second – some kind of Malva? No idea otherwise. The shrub is about 5 ft high and fairly woody – kind of sub-shrubby really.
All suggestions most welcome – thanks!

Sue, the second is almost certainly Kitaibelia vitifolia…one of my favourites. The flowers tend be open allowing you to see the green behind them. It makes quite a large sub shrub. Geraniums I am afraid are not my thing so am unsure of identity.
Brian,
You are spot on with the Kitaibelia of course. Thanks again!
You are welcome Sue, and try G. versicolor for the first. Since seeing your Asclepia I have invested in two, Asclepia tuberosa – flowers all orange, and Asclepia curassavica – vibrant scarlet reflexed petals and yellow! Now look what you’ve started LOL
Trilli, at least with the second picture you had the right family !! Just found out I’m going to be on that Radio 4 quiz – they must be desperate !! You haven’t got any of that Kitaibelia to sell, its a new one on me !!!
Hi Elaine,
No Kitaibelia in stock, but I took some optimistic cuttings yesterday and I’ll collect the seed too, so hopefully next year, if you can wait that long!
I don’t know if I’ll be on the quiz – I was fine on the horticulture, but utterly hopeless on the gardening in literature and history questions.
The Kitaibelia grows like topsy from seed Sue, I weed it out for England in the vegetable garden in Spring!
The RHS replied with a probable Geranium versicolor, as you suggested, Brian. What threw us off the scent is that in the new RHS perennials book, the picture of it shows a pink flower – although the description says white!
