One of the best colour combinations in the garden right now. 
Inula hookeri against a yellow edged holly – a great, but probably lucky pairing.

Sometime in mid July the pastels of early summer gave way to the rich golds and reds of high summer. Inula ‘Goliath’ is towering over the vegetable plot, a lovely butter-yellow Helianthus has moved in assertively and Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ is in full heat. The gentle blues and purples of May and June are long gone, the golds, reds and oranges have taken the stage.
And as if on cue, summer is here, late but welcome. July’s rain has gone and today was the loveliest summer day imaginable with warm, kick-your-shoes-off sunshine, cotton-wool clouds sliding by on a light breeze and all around the smell of newly mown hay and freshly turned eath. I spent the afternoon in the stock beds, re-labelling newly rescued plants and collecting seed. Important, yes, but deeply pleasurable.

Love the colour combination picture, I think Echinacea and Hemerocallis go together well. I have E.Pink Flamingo with H.Sammy Russell in the front garden with common or garden montbretia and Persicaria Red Dragon. It has been a most successful combination although now the Hemerocallis is going over. I like the Kniphofia with yours, do you know which one it is?
Hi Brian, I’ve never heard of Pink Flamingo – will have to look out for it. I don’t know which Kniphofia it is – none of the named ones on the nursery quite match it.
