We’ve moved the bird table and feeders onto the patio, right outside our office area and crammed them with seeds. The birds are loving it and we are getting next to nothing done – the entertainment outside the window is far too good.

Our top visitor so far is a nuthatch – a shy and elegant bird who waits until the feeder is deserted before having a quiet feed alone. Mostly the feeders are buzzing with constant activity; five varieties of tit – great, coal, blue, marsh and willow tits fight for the best perches while robins, sparrows, dunnocks and blackbirds peck around underneath for discarded seeds. It beats the telly any day.
